The DM8806 is a fully integrated Fast Ethernet Switch controller for normal and extended temperature range with five 10/100Mb PHY, five 10/100Mb MAC plus one 10/100/1000Mb MAC, and an MII/GMII interface option for a 6th MAC.
The controller offers basic Layer 2 switch features and advanced IEEE 802.1Q VLAN, priority queuing, IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet, IGMP snooping and Spanning Tree protocol.
All ports support FX, only ports 0 and 1 support LFP/FEF. Fiber mode requires an external EEPROM. Only PTPv1 boundary clock is supported.
The integrated PHYs are compliant with the IEEE 802.3u standards. The MII/GMII interface offers the possibility for flexible connection of 10/100/1000Mb PHYs.
In mode 2A (different pin assignment to mode 3) the GMAC and the GMII interface can be used. Details can be found in the separate data sheet for Mode 2A and the introduction to the DM8806.
The standard EVB of the DM8806 is configured to Mode 3.
