Ethernet Switch Controller

 

 

Davicom offers cost-effective 2-, 3- and 6-port switch controllers for industrial and IIoT applications with low current consumption.
DM8603 and DM8806 are 10/100Base-TX/FX 3- and 6-port Layer-2.5 switches with MII, RMII and Reverse MII. Additional features of DM8806 are IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol, IEEE802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet, Fiber mode FEF, MSTP, WOL,  cut-through and 1.8, 3.3 and 5.0V tolerant I/Os. Both can be used as TX–FX Media Converters.
DM9006 is a 10/100Base-TX 2-port Layer-2 switch controller with 8- and 16-Bit Bus Interface. DM9016 adds 32-Bit Bus Interface and external MII. DM9106 is similar to DM9016 with PCI Bus instead of parallel Bus Interface.
The ports are individually configurable. Cascading- and ring-architectures can be realized. The switches generate and verify the TCP/UDP and IPv4 checksum to reduce application controller load. IGMP v1, v2, snooping, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) and RSTP, IPv6 and Port Security are being supported.
The integrated PHYs are IEEE 802.3u compliant and support Auto MDI-X. Different power-down modes reduce power consumption. DM8806 can internally generate 50MHz reference clock-out in RMII mode.

DM9006: 2-Port Ethernet Switch Controller with 8/16-Bit processor Interface

 

The DM9006 is a fully integrated, high performance, and cost-effective fast Ethernet switch controller with one general processor bus interface, two ports 10M/100Mbps PHY. As a replacement for the DM9003 this part is completely pin- and software compatible for the DM9003. Additional features are IGMP v1, v2 snooping, IPv4 and IPv6 support, Port Security, Spanning Tree Protocol and Wake-on-LAN.
The general processor bus connect directly to internal host MAC with 8- or 16-bit data to access internal memory. The host MAC has the similar functions as other 10/100Mbps PHY or MII do. This makes the DM9006 act as an extended three ports switch and to shorten the latency from processor port to destination port.
The internal memory of the DM9006 supports up to 1K uni-cast MAC address table, and provide to two ports' and processor port's transmit and receive buffers. For efficient memory usage algorithm, a total of 48KB memory are shared with two ports and processor port in link list data structure. Each port of the DM9006 provides four priority transmit queues, that can be defined by port-based, 802.1p VLAN, or IP packet ToS field automatically, to fit the various bandwidth and latency requirement of data, voice, and video application. Each port also supports ingress and/or egress rate control to provide proper bandwidth. And up to 16 groups of 802.1Q VLAN with Tag/Un-tag functions are supported to provide efficient packet forwarding.
The TCP/UDP/IPv4 checksum generation and checking functions are also provided by processor port to offload the processor compute loading. Besides the packet transmit and receive functions, the processor port also provides various registers to control and get status of the DM9006 functional operation. Each port, include the processor port, provide the MIB counters and loop-back capability and the build in memory self test (BIST) for system and board level diagnostic. The integrated two ports PHY are compliant with IEEE 802.3u standards and support auto-MDI/MDIX for twisted pair cable transmit/receive direction switching automatically.

3-Port Ethernet Switch Controller with PCI Interface DM9106

 

The DM9106 is a fully integrated, high performance, and cost-effective fast Ethernet switch controller with one general PCI bus interface, two ports 10/100Mbps PHY, and one port MII or RMII interface. Additional features are IGMP v1, v2 snooping, IPv4 and IPv6 support, Port Security, Spanning Tree Protocol and Wake-on-LAN.
Each port of the DM9106 provides four priority transmit queues, that can be defined by port-based, 802.1p VLAN, or IP packet ToS field automatically, to fit the various bandwidth and latency requirement of data, voice, and video applications. Each port also supports ingress and/or egress rate control to provide proper bandwidth. And up to 16 groups of 802.1Q VLAN with Tag/Un-tag functions are supported to provide efficient packet forwarding. The integrated two ports PHY are compliant with IEEE 802.3u standards.
The MII interface provides the flexibility to connect Ethernet PHY, and it can be configured as Reversed MII interface for SoC with MII interface. An alternative interface, the RMII interface, is also provided to connect the lower pin count Ethernet PHY or SoC with RMII interface

DM9016: 3-Port Ethernet Switch Controller with 8/16/32-Bit processor Interface

 

The DM9016 is a fully integrated and cost-effective fast Ethernet switch controller with two ports 10/100M PHY, one port MII or RMII interface, and general processor bus interface. Additional features are IGMP v1, v2 snooping, IPv4 and IPv6 support, Port Security, MII/RMII Interface, Spanning Tree Protocol and Wake-on-LAN.
The controller provides basic Layer-2 switch functions and advanced IEEE 802.1Q VLAN and priority queuing scheme. The integrated two ports PHY are compliant with IEEE 802.3u standards.
The MII interface provides the flexibility to connect Ethernet PHY or SoC with MII/RMII interface. The DM9016 provides direct interface to the general processor bus with 8-, 16-, or 32-bit data to access internal memory.

DM8806: 6-Port Ethernet Single Chip Switch Controller with GMII/MII/RMII

 

DM8806 6-Port Switch is a replacement for DM8606C with enhanced functionality compared to DM8606C. DM8806 is fully compatible with DM8606C Mode 3. Only PTPv1 boundary clock is being supported.

All ports of DM8806, port 0 to 4, support fiber but only port 0 and 1 support LFP/FEF. If you want to use fiber, an EEPROM is required.

In Mode 2A with a totally different pin assignment to Mode 3, GMAC and GMII can be used. Details can be found in the separate datasheet to Mode 2A and the introduction to DM8806.
